Now is your last chance to enter the Wood Awards 2022, with organisers putting out a final call for teams to submit their UK-based wood projects.
Established in 1971, the Wood Awards: Excellence in British Architecture and Product Design is the most prestigious award in the UK for wood-based buildings and products.
The Wood Awards’ elite independent judging panel not only judges all submitted entries but also visits the shortlisted projects in person, making the Wood Awards a uniquely rigorous competition.
The Awards are split into two main categories: Furniture & Product and Buildings. The Gold Award is given to the project that the judges deem to be the winner of winners.
The Welcome Building at RHS Garden Bridgewater, by Hodder + Partners, winner of the Structural Award in the Buildings category at last year’s awards.
Jim Greaves of Hopkins Architects, returning as Chair of Buildings Judges, comments:
In a world seeking answers to the climate crisis, wood stands out as a material for our built environment by enabling us to create low-carbon, high quality, and beautiful buildings. For more than 30 years, the Wood Awards has been the most prestigious award given to showcase the best of the best in timber construction. These awards are more important now than ever, and I encourage anyone with a project in need of recognition to enter now and place themselves in the running.
Design critic, curator and journalist Corinne Julius, returning as Chair of Furniture and Product Judges, says:
Every year the judges of the Wood Awards look forward to seeing a selection of thoughtful, inventive, aesthetically pleasing designs across the categories of Production, Bespoke (One Offs) and Student Designs. We are delighted that this year we will be able to re-instate our Student Award category, which we suspended last year as students had had so little time in the workshop. This year we are relishing seeing their work.
“Whether you have just graduated, are an established designer or a manufacturer and have come up with a design that deserves widespread recognition, I strongly encourage you to get involved right now and enter your project.”
The Iso-Lounge Chair, winner of the Production award in the Furniture & Product category at last year’s Wood Awards
There are multiple awards given across both categories. Furniture & Product is split into Bespoke and Production Made, with the Student Designer category being reintroduced in 2022, to celebrate their achievements after two years of disruption many students experienced due to Covid.
The 2022 building categories are likely to be Commercial & Leisure, Education & Public Sector, Interiors, Private and Small Projects. Other awards, such as Structural and Existing Building awards, can be given at the judges’ discretion.
With permission from the owner, anyone associated with a building or product completed in the last two years can enter. The full terms and conditions are available at www.woodawards.com.
