The Tree
Rarely exceeds 60 foot in height with a diameter up to 3 foot.

The Timber
Geronggang is a light Malaysian hardwood, the sapwood of which is pink and distinct from the heartwood which is brick-red or deep pink, with a very lustrous surface when planed. The grain is interlocked, and the texture moderately coarse but even. It is a soft wood to cut, light in weight, ranging from 432 kg/m3 to 608 kg/m3 but commercial parcels usually average about 544 kg/m3 when dried.

Drying
Easy to dry.

Strength
A strong timber, with strength properties comparable with those of oak.

Working Qualities
Medium - The wood is relatively easy to work, and takes a good finish.
