The Tree
A large, tall, straight tree, without buttresses, reaching a height of 36m or more with a diameter not exceeding 1.2m when fully grown.

The Timber
The sapwood is light coloured with a pinkish tinge and clearly defined from the heartwood which is pinkish orangey to reddish brown, sometimes with greenish brown veins.

Drying
Easy to dry with a small risk of distortion and surface checking and a risk of casehardening in thick boards.

Strength
It has excellent strength qualities comparing favorably with iroko but somewhat superior in MOR and MOE.

Working Qualities
Easy - Works well and sliced veneers can be produced satisfactorily.
