The Tree
A very large tree often attaining a height of 60m and a diameter of 3m.

The Timber
The heartwood is rich red or light reddish brown in colour, the sapwood is pale. The timber is hard and heavy with a fine texture.

Drying
Dries at a moderate rate with little degrade although some slight distortion may occur.

Strength
Compares well to greenheart in compression and MOE (modulus of elasticity), although slightly less strong in bending.

Working Qualities
Medium - Easy to work but has a blunting effect due to the high silica content. The sawdust can cause cause irritation of mucous membranes.
