Padauk

The Tree
A medium sized tree between 15m and 30m high and a diameter of 0.6m to 1.0m. Usually has wide buttresses, and the bole is sometimes divided.

The Timber
The sapwood is of an oatmeal colour, wide, often up to 200mm, the heartwood varies from blood red to dark brown with red streaks. A hard, heavy wood, weighing between 640 and 800 kg/m3 when dried. The grain is straight to slightly interlocked, and the texture is moderately coarse.

Drying
Dries well, but slowly.
