Wood is a valuable resource that can be reused and recycled. Products made from waste wood include particle board, animal bedding, and horticultural mulch. However, at present most waste wood is burned as biomass for energy recovery.

The UK collects over 4.5 million tonnes of wood waste annually, arising from construction, packaging, demolition, municipal waste, and industrial waste. This wood waste is used in many applications including recycling and energy recovery.
