A record 335 new MPs have been inducted into House of Commons this week following Labour’s win at the recent UK General Election. With so many MPs new to being in Government, now is the perfect time for Timber Development UK (TDUK) members to write to their local MP to encourage them to promote the use of timber as a mainstream construction material.
In her first speech as Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rachel Reeves MP, announced a new housebuilding drive and committed to reinstating mandatory housing targets in order to meet Labour’s manifesto pledge to build 1.5 million new homes in the next five years.
The timber industry fully understands how timber, as a premium low-carbon building material, is perfectly placed to help the new Government achieve these ambitious targets, while also helping to meet the UK’s ambitious net-zero commitments.
The timber supply chain is worth £10 billion to the UK economy, as boosting the use of timber could help bring economic prosperity in every region of the UK. However, many of these new MPs may be unaware of this fact, which is why TDUK, as part of the Confederation of Timber Industries (CTI), is encouraging TDUK members to reach out to MPs in their area.
