Celebrating the rising stars of the timber industry

Ellie-Mae Nichols, an apprentice at Setra Wood Products, was recently a regional finalist in the Rising Star category of the National Apprenticeship and Skills Awards.

The awards are designed to recognise and reward the achievements of exceptional apprentices and T-Level students, skills champions and apprenticeship and T-Level employers.

Although Ellie didn’t win the regional final, she was among the top four recognised and attended an awards ceremony in Cambridge on Tuesday, 8 October, along with her mentor, Abbey Johnson.

Ellie-Mae is involved in all aspects of reactive and proactive customer service and sales tasks at Setra Wood Products. Her key responsibilities include:

  • Order processing
  • Quotations
  • Quality control inspections
  • Monitoring credit status
  • Resolving customer disputes
  • Transport planning

She excels in using various forms of communication to provide excellent, tailored customer service, confidently making telephone calls and writing well-crafted emails.

Working within a team of 10, Ellie-Mae develops cross-functional relationships with other departments, positively influencing relationships with both colleagues and customers. Known for her positive can-do attitude, reliability, punctuality, and teamwork, she stands out as a ‘rising star’. at Setra.

Despite the obligations she has to her apprenticeship, she completes all tasks set her on time and shows initiative by seeking information from colleagues across the business to enhance her college work.

Ellie-Mae’s mentor has received positive feedback from loyal customers about her support. She is due to complete her apprenticeship in December and will then become a permanent member of staff at Setra Wood Products.
