One of James Jones & Sons‘ Australian subsidiaries, XLam, has been recognised as the CLT supplier to the Queensland Fire and Emergency Services North Coast Region Headquarters and Maryborough Fire and Rescue Station, following the announcement that the project has won the international Built by Nature ‘Public Infrastructure’ award.
Selected from almost 400 entries, the Built by Nature award follows a rigorous shortlisting and judging process by international experts, including Kevin McCloud, Architect and UK Grand Designs host. As one of the winning buildings, it was showcased as part of COP30 being held in Brazil in November, including the showing of a short documentary featuring Sir David Attenborough and Kevin Macleod.
The project is Australia’s first mass engineered timber fire and emergency services complex. Principal Architect of Baber Studio, Kim Baber, who led the design of the project, was in London to accept the award, which recognises excellence in timber building projects and their unparalleled sustainability credentials.
