Timber Development UK is warning its members to remain vigilant and guard against fraudulent emails trying to obtain timber, after news that a number of merchants have been contacted by fake companies, posing as well-known industry names, in an attempt to secure timber.
The scam emails that we have seen are very sophisticated, using the correct terminology and clearly understanding the industry’s prices and language.
A number of the emails have been found to be placing orders for similar quantities of timber on the initial query, such as:
- C24 Treated:
47×100 – 8000 meters
47×150 – 8000 meters
47×200 – 9000 meters
- CLS Untreated:
47×50 – 7000 meters
47×75 – 9000 meters
47×100 – 9000 meters
One company that we know of has fallen victim to the scam, and so we are urging all our members to take extra steps wherever necessary to make sure all orders are from legitimate customers before dispatching stock.
