designTimber – New Temple Complex

In the first of our new series of designTimber 2024 webinars, we learn from the multidisciplinary team behind the New Temple Complex.

About this event:

The designTimber series began with the New Temple Complex, winner of both the Gold and Education & Public Sector Awards in last year’s Wood Awards.

This multi-faith community complex utilizes engineered timber frames and offsite manufacturing to create a series of exquisitely serene buildings. At the heart of the project, a prefabricated glulam lantern structure forms the majestic domed roof of the temple. A library, chapels, community hall, foyer and kitchen are all equally beautifully realized with a rigorous fabric first approach.

During the webinar lead architect Steve Wilkinson from James Gorst Architects and structural engineer Duncan Walters from Eckersley O’Callaghan are joined by timber frame specialist Nick Horton from Pacegrade to provide insight into the design and process behind the creation of this multi-faith community complex.

Speakers:

Steve Wilkinson – project architect, James Gorst Architects

Duncan Walters – structural engineer, Eckersley O’Callaghan

Nick Horton – timber frame specialist, Pacegrade
