designTimber – Westminster Coroner’s Court

Join us for the second webinar in our new 2026 series of designTimber, where we learn from the multidisciplinary team behind Westminster Coroner’s Court.

Harnessing the warmth and performance of natural materials – including an exposed CLT superstructure, acoustically absorbent oak linings and Jura limestone cladding – this two-storey extension forms part of the wider expansion and renovation of the original Grade II-listed Westminster Coroner’s Court.

Along with investigating unexplained deaths and conducting inquests, the building is part of a Designated Disaster Mortuary which can be called to action at very short notice. The session will explore why CLT construction was crucial in this highly sensitive setting.

In this webinar, we will hear from project architect Rachel Elliott (Lynch Architects), project manager (Eurban – mass timber specialist) Hannes Voss and joinery subcontractor Richard Woods (Andy Thornton Worldwide Interiors) and learn about the design, structure and interior of this unique timber project.
