ZSL x FSC Sustainable Forestry Forum

This November, the Brazilian Amazonian City of Belem will host the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) – COP30. Dubbed the “Nature COP”, this crucial meeting, held for the first time in the heart of the Amazon, is set to place an unprecedented emphasis on forests and land-use.

To build on this momentum and ensure sustainable forestry and its supporting mechanisms are incorporated in these dialogues, ZSL and FSC UK will bring together different perspectives from the world of forestry to discuss how business, finance, and policy can help scale up sustainable forest management and drive positive impacts for climate, nature, and communities.

This high-level dialogue will explore how responsible sourcing, certification, and innovative financing mechanisms can scale nature-positive forestry, and how the private sector can support forest protection and restoration efforts worldwide.

Session one – a focus on business: 1:45-2:45 pm

In this first session, the general topics that will be covered are:

• The business case for sustainable forestry.
• Challenges and opportunities – what can the private sector do to support and scale sustainable forestry?
• The benefits of sustainably managed forests on nature and climate – ensuring this is recognised at COP30 and beyond, alongside restoration targets.
• The role of retailers and supply chain leaders in shaping demand for sustainable forest products.
• The intersection of carbon markets, biodiversity credits, and forestry business models.
