Labour has formed a new UK government, bringing with it a significant majority in the House of Commons that should make it easy for the new Cabinet to implement its plans for the country.
But the government is inheriting arguably the worst economic plight since World War Two, as well as a housing market in crisis, alongside extremely high expectations from voters after they have pledged to turn things around for the better.
The fact that new Chancellor Rachel Reeves used her first major speech in office to focus on housebuilding is a good sign for the industry, but they have a significant mountain to climb if they are going to succeed in growing our economy and ensuring a more stable future for the country.
In this issue of Supplying Timber, we’re taking a look at the current state of the timber sector, and how certain regulations, such as the future of the UKCA and CE mark, urgently need clarity for the industry to properly plan for the future.
We’re also bringing you our usual selection of outstanding case studies of buildings constructed using timber, alongside profiles of some of the dynamic and forward-thinking Timber Development UK members and how they are planning for what lies ahead. We hope you enjoy all the information this latest issue has to offer, and if you’d like to get involved in our next edition, please contact me at jennie@timberdevelopment.uk
