Navigating a challenging market

Welcome to the Autumn 2025 edition of Supplying Timber, bringing together the latest updates, market data, and technical insight for the UK timber industry.

This year has seen a return to growth in timber and panel import volumes, while interest in low-carbon construction continues to drive demand for sustainable materials. Timber remains central to efforts to decarbonise the built environment, offering a renewable alternative to carbon-intensive building products. At the same time, the Government’s updated Timber in Construction Roadmap has signalled a stronger policy focus on domestic forestry, circular supply chains, and greater use of wood products in mainstream UK construction.

Industry investment is helping to meet this demand, with more companies expanding manufacturing capacity, modernising processing facilities, and strengthening their due diligence to ensure transparency and quality. Certification schemes, environmental product declarations, and digital tools are playing a growing role in enabling specifiers, merchants, and contractors to make informed choices.

However, opportunities come alongside challenges. The sector continues to face evolving regulation, shifting consumer expectations, and the need to close continuing skills gaps across forestry, design, and construction.

In this issue, you’ll find our analysis of market trends, updates on industry initiatives, product developments, and examples of timber in action across residential, commercial, and landscape design. As always, our aim is to provide practical information to help you navigate a fast-changing marketplace and make confident decisions.

Timber’s role in creating a low-carbon, high-quality built environment has never been clearer. By continuing to invest in innovation, collaboration, and sustainability, our sector is well positioned to deliver lasting value. We hope you enjoy this issue, and if you have insights, projects, or innovations to share, reach out to us – we’d love to hear from you!
