Rising to the Challenge

Following the completion of this year’s University Design Challenge – where teams of multi-discipline students competed to reimagine and retrofit a building using timber – this magazine features details of the winning designs, selected entries, student learnings and judges feedback.

The challenge is bought together by Timber Development UK in a collaborative partnership with AECB, BE-ST, NMITE, Edinburgh Napier University and Passivhaus Trust, with software from Trimble, the Passive House Institute and AECB.
About the editor
Head of Education and Engagement at TDUK, Tabitha works with industry, professionals, academia, and students to enthuse, encourage and educate - increasing knowledge and competency in timber as we transition to a biobased economy. Her background is in forestry, milling, manufacturing, new build, and renovation along with research, product development, monitoring, certification and occasionally policy! She collaborates with ACAN, AECB, ASBP, BACH, Coed Cymru, Passivhaus Trust, Woodland Heritage, Woodknowledge Wales, and is seconded to NMITE where she increases partnerships to deliver essential timber skills.
