About the project

On a one-hectare riverside site adjacent to the Millennium Dome, London’s first purpose-built design district is a central feature of Knight Dragon’s masterplan for Greenwich Peninsula. Knight Dragon commissioned eight architects to independently design 16 different buildings providing affordable workshops and studio spaces — with all engineering by Whitby Wood.

Building D2, situated at the southeastern corner of the site, is one of two buildings designed by Mole Architects. D2 is three storeys high and constructed in a combination of cross laminated timber (CLT) and glued laminated timber (Glulam), much of which is exposed internally to create light-filled and inspiring workspaces. Its CLT floor slabs span just over 4m and are designed for office loadings.

The Design District supports new generations of workers and new ways of working, inspired by the very fabric of its unique buildings and their inter-relationships.

Buildings C2 and D2 are shortlisted for the 2025 RIBA London regional awards.
