NANKAI PLYWOOD Group joins TDUK as part of global expansion

NANKAI PLYWOOD Group has joined the Timber Development Association (TDUK) as part of its global expansion plans.

Since it began in 1942, Japan-based NANKAI PLYWOOD has developed, manufactured, and sold a wide range of timber products, including blockboards with decorative finishes that are particularly suitable for storage components and interior shelving. The company was an early adopter of the ‘Falcata’ sustainable timber species and has established three manufacturing plants in Indonesia.

The group is now working to strengthen its European operations and, as such, has joined TDUK to access the largest, most comprehensive network of timber-related businesses in the UK.

NANKAI PLYWOOD Group has also recently acquired major French Plywood manufacturer JOUBERT, which has strong brand recognition and a broad customer base spanning 30 countries including France and the Netherlands. JOUBERT produces a wide range of products, from general-purpose to specialty plywood, including poplar, okoumé, and composite plywood.

The acquisition of JOUBERT will help NANKAI PLYWOOD Group promote the sustainable use of timber products and strengthen its competitiveness in global markets. The Group will pursue synergies in both sales and manufacturing, such as expanding sales of NP ROLPIN products through JOUBERT’s brand strength and distribution network, and considering joint production of poplar plywood and composite plywood.

As a result of this acquisition, overseas sales are expected to account for approximately 40% of the Group’s total sales.

NANKAI PLYWOOD Group is also actively growing its production capacity with the launch of a new plant in Jember, Indonesia. This third plant in Indonesia covers approximately 6 hectares and is equipped with newly installed production facilities that will further enhance the Company’s stable supply structure.

The Jember Plant will primarily manufacture LVL/LVS and plywood. LVL/LVS products are expected to be supplied for non-structural applications such as door cores, window frames and furniture. Plywood production will focus on proposals for applications such as caravan interior materials, leveraging falcata’s lightweight characteristics and excellent workability.

Furthermore, by producing laminated timber and plywood/LVL at the same site, the Company will optimise timber procurement and ensure enhanced traceability in manufacturing.
