The TreeThe trees are unbuttressed, between 50m to 70m tall and with boles of 2.5m in diameter with a clear bole of up to 40m achieved.
The TimberThis timber is very heavy and hard. It is red brown in colour with a medium texture and is slightly lustrous. The grain can be straight or interlocked (interlocked grain is slight).
DryingSlow drying is recommended. There is a slight risk of distortion and checking when drying.
StrengthThis timber is similar to greenheart in compression and bending but with a slightly higher MOE.
Working QualitiesMedium - difficult. Although a satisfactory finish can be achieved, the timber is very dense and hard and has a high blunting effect. Pre-boring is necessary and gluing requires care due to the dense nature of the timber.
