Achieving airtightness in a timber structure design is vital for energy efficiency, thermal comfort, and to protect a timber structure from dampness and mould.
Design for airtightness stops the uncontrolled movement of air in and out of a structure by closing gaps through which cold air enters and warm air escapes. This differs from planned air movement, such as exhausting stale air and ventilating fresh air.
