Summary
Load duration is the accumulated value of time during a structure’s lifespan that loads will be applied.
Calculations of load duration enable structural designs to be made which optimise timber’s ability to withstand higher stresses under shorter periods of time.
Eurocode 5: Design of Timber Structures is a technical standard which details five load-duration classes for timber.
