The timber industry Net Zero Roadmap

The Net-Zero Roadmap project wants to establish a clear route to net-zero by 2050 for the industry. The roadmap highlights the key areas where the timber industry can make a difference, including:

  • How we can improve the efficiency of production and distribution of materials.
  • Moving over to electric powered vehicles for the transportation of products, and hydrogen for harvesting.
  • Moving over to biomass CHP, and other renewable forms of energy, at production facilities.
  • Working with our overseas supply chain to implement similar measures to reduce imported embodied emissions.

Case studies

Thomas and Sally Beevor gave a simple brief to Neil Winder of StudioMGM Architects. They wanted a new house to retire to.
It needed to have a downstairs master bedroom, should accommodate their interests and most importantly must use as much timber as possible from the estate sawmill.

Walking into the new railway station at Abbey Wood, the immediate impression is of the elegant timber roof which arches over the interior, imparting a warm, natural quality to this large public space – more than 25 metres by 25 metres.
