Summary

Europe’s forests are continuing to expand and play a central role in climate mitigation, biodiversity and the bioeconomy, according to the latest State of Europe’s Forests 2025 report. Despite this growth, increasing environmental pressures and competing demands are creating new challenges for long-term management.

Key Information

The report covers 45 European countries, showing that forests now span more than 232 million hectares – around 35% of Europe’s land area. Growing stock has reached an estimated 38.3 billion cubic metres, with around 79% located in forests available for wood supply.
