Summary

There are two key elements in ensuring that a timber product derives from well-managed sources. Firstly, forest management and then a chain of custody system to provide independent certification covering all stages of manufacturing, transportation and distribution.

This Wood Information Sheet sets out to explain the certification process to improve specification and increase clarity and efficiency throughout the timber supply chain.

Key Information

UK timber imports are subject to international legislation (EU Timber Regulation (EUTR) and the Forest Law Enforcement, Governance and Trade (FLEGT) Regulation).

Certified companies are subject to annual audits by accredited certification bodies to verify continuous compliance with certification scheme requirements.

Case studies

This project was inspired by the spirit of the Californian Case Study houses and the simplicity of Japanese domestic architecture.

‘RoominaRoom’ is a practical solution to a client’s need for additional living space within a large existing room; it is also an innovative and imaginative new insertion, highly practical yet celebrating the form and possibilities of timber.
