On 30 December 2024 the European Union is scheduled to cease implementation of the EU Timber Regulation and enter into force the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) for wood and wood products being placed on the EU market. This will place additional responsibilities on Sawmills within the EU and on Suppliers from outside wishing to sell their wood products to the EU.
However, it is important for TDUK members and their Suppliers to be aware that the current UK Timber Regulation (UKTR) will remain in place as of the 30 December 2024 for all wood and wood products being placed on the UK market. In addition the UK Government has not publicly expressed any intention to move away from the requirements of the UKTR or proposed any update or amendment at this time.
This trade note explains some of the ways EUDR will affect importers, merchants, and suppliers.
