While vibration can occur in any part of a structure, inhibiting vibration in timber floors is important in design considerations.
Vibration in timber flooring can cause discomfort for occupants due to small deflections as joists are loaded and unloaded. The consideration of movement and the incorporation of design options to minimise vibration is detailed under Eurocode 5. This includes a vibration assessment method as part of its Serviceability Limit State design.
