Following recent changes at CITES COP20, a review was conducted on the UK’s Annex D listings and changes have since been reflected in the UK Statutory Instrument 2026/627.

This means that certain timber species typically traded by UK merchants will require a suitable import notification to be completed with each shipment.

Annex D of the Council Regulation (EC) No. 338/97 is in addition to the three Appendices of CITES and is referred to as the “monitoring list”. It includes species that might be eligible for listing in one of the other Annexes and for which EU import levels should therefore be monitored. An Import Notification is needed when importing Annex D listed species into the EU, and when importing the species from EU to GB.

On 19 January 2022, the European Commission listed new species in Annex D of the Council Regulation (EC) No. 338/97 which includes:

• Okoumé: Aucoumea klaineana
• Sapele: Entandrophragma cylindricum
• Moabi: Baillonella toxisperma
• Burmese Paduak: Pterocarpus macrocarpus.
