UK CPI inflation remained at 4.0% in January 2024, the same as in December 2023. Financial markets had expected it to rise slightly to 4.2% so inflation being below expectations has meant that many analysts and financial markets have shifted expectations once again on how long interest rates will remain at peak and when, and what rate, interest rates will be cut.
