One of our key missions is to lead best practice. To make this happen, we have commission more than 140 papers covering all aspects of timber supply, design, and construction.

We are producing more than 140 Timber Knowledge Sheets, covering everything you need to know about timber. They are an essential resource, providing an introduction to a host of timber topics and answering common questions about every aspect of working with timber.

Developed with experts from Edinburgh Napier University and our unrivalled membership network of timber professionals, they will be the go-to-source for anyone seeking knowledge on timber – regardless of the topic.

The first 50 Timber Knowledge Sheets were released on 1 November 2023, and are available free to download for all TDUK members, while the remainder are expected to be published by Q2 2024. We will be continually updating this library.

These new Knowledge Sheets cover technical information in detail, such as Timber Sizes and Tolerances – which explains tolerance classes, target sizes and strength classes for structural timber, as well as introductions to all kinds of timber components. For example, you can download our sheets about Sole Plates, Trussed Rafters, Breather Membranes and Structural Insulated Panels (SIPS).

Information in our library is of interest to architects, suppliers, merchants, engineers and contractors alike. The Knowledge Library also contains plenty of regulatory guidance, so TDUK members can ensure they are always compliant, for example, on UK Building Regulations or Thermal Regulations.

These sheets also cover vital information on the sustainable use of timber, including on Timber and Embodied Carbon, Sourcing Timber Sustainably, Carbon Cycle and Storage and Circular Design: Waste Wood – to name just a few.
