Timber Development UK is working with the Zoological Society of London (ZSL) to raise awareness of scientific timber testing, and members are invited to take part in a short industry survey.
The survey, which takes just three to five minutes to complete, explores how UK companies are using scientific testing to verify the origin of wood products. Its findings will help shape future awareness materials and guidance for the sector.
Scientific testing in this context refers to laboratory techniques such as Stable Isotope Ratio Analysis and Trace Element Analysis, which can be used to confirm the harvest location of timber and other wood products. This forms part of ZSL’s wider programme to develop reference libraries for origin testing of key African timber species, delivered in partnership with the World Forest ID initiative and Etifor, alongside TDUK.
As responsible sourcing and due diligence continue to rise up the agenda, this is an opportunity for members to help shape the conversation around origin verification and strengthen confidence in timber supply chains. All responses will be anonymised and treated in confidence, with results reported only in a non-identifiable format.
