Timber Development UK has just published the first part of its huge new library of Timber Knowledge Sheets.
TDUK members have access to our entire Knowledge Library, which will include 140 Timber Knowledge Sheets. These will cover everything you need to know about timber in construction.
They are an essential resource, providing an introduction to a host of timber topics and answering common questions about every aspect of working with wood.
Developed with experts from Edinburgh Napier University and our unrivalled membership network of timber professionals, more than 50 Timber Knowledge Sheets are now available for TDUK members to read and download.
The new Knowledge Sheets cover technical information in detail, such as Timber Sizes and Tolerances – which explains tolerance classes, target sizes and strength classes for structural timber.
All can be found in the Knowledge Library, along with plenty of others. These will be of interest to architects, suppliers, merchants, engineers and contractors alike.
Whether you work in the Build, Supply or Design sector, you’ll find a wealth of information packed within the Timber Knowledge Sheets.
And different methods of timber construction are described in accessible and easy to understand fashion. Read our introduction to Lightweight Timber Frame Construction, for example, or to Modern Methods and Offsite Timber Construction.
Helping you to work at your best
There is also ‘best practice’ information for working on site – see our Construction Site: Timber Best Practice sheet, for instance – as well as practical introductions to working with timber in challenging contexts such as flood-prone areas.
Steeped in sustainability
Responsible and sustainable use of timber is vitally important to the industry. Anyone wanting to know more about the carbon storage of timber can read our sheets on Timber and Embodied Carbon, Sourcing Timber Sustainably, Carbon Cycle and Storage and Circular Design: Waste Wood – to name just a few.
We urge all TDUK members to dive in and start exploring this exciting new resource. It houses a wealth of knowledge that will inform and energise your professional practice. And there is even more to come in early 2024…
