The EU regulation on deforestation-free supply chains has come into force

EU Deforestation Regulation

The EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), scheduled to replace the current EU Timber Regulation (EUTR) in the European Union, came into force on 29 June 2023, with an 18-24 month implementation preparation period.

This regulation will significantly enhance data gathering efforts and due diligence requirements for all businesses involved in the supply chain to the EU. It also has the potential to impact businesses operating in Northern Ireland (NI), as the government is currently consulting on introducing this regulation in NI.

The potential impact of EUDR on UK trade is yet to be determined.

TDUK has written a briefing paper for members outlining its response to the EUDR, which can be read and downloaded here, and is awaiting further information.

The EU has also released an FAQ document on the EUDR, which can be read and downloaded here.
