The Wood Recyclers’ Association has published the Winter 2024/25 Edition of its Waste Wood Market Report. The report highlights the current high demand for waste wood in line with seasonal trends, along with forecasts that the market won’t be as tight this winter as it was in the previous year, due to the reduced offtake of material last summer and autumn.
In particular, both planned and unplanned downtime taken by biomass plants in the second half of 2024 has led to improved material availability, the report says, alongside reduced utilisation by the panel board sector and fewer exports. This has allowed end users to stock up for the winter ahead where possible, although many were restricted by FPP constraints.
As the current winter progresses and biomass plants strive to maximise energy production, it is expected that demand for waste wood will increase further and the market will become tighter, as is usual for this time of year.
