The Tree
Curupay attains a height of 20m to 30m on average with a diameter of 2-3 foot. Boles are straight and clear.

The Timber
Dark reddish brown heartwood, with darker streaks running through the timber, the sapwood is a yellow-brown to light pink colour. Texture is fine to medium with an interlocked grain.

Drying
Dries slowly with little warp, but some surface checking and splitting.

Strength
A very dense hard timber with strength properties Comparable to greenheart or ekki.

Working Qualities
Difficult - Very difficult to work with hand tools, but can be worked by machines with less trouble. Must be pre-bored for nailing.
