The Tree
A fairly large tree reaching up to 40m in height with a bole diameter of approximately 2m.

The Timber
The timber is variable in colour with the heartwood yellowish, olive to chocolate brown, frequently variegated and sometimes figured. It is a fine to medium textured wood and the grain may be straight, wavy or curly.

Drying
Requires care to avoid warping.

Strength
Strength properties slightly less than beech.

Working Qualities
Easy - Finishes well.
