LONG SERVICE AWARD 2023

The TDUK Long Service Award celebrates one individual from the industry for their contributions throughout their many years of service.
Steve Henry retires end January, after 50 consecutive years in the timber trade. Beginning on 1 October, 1974, Steve began as a Management trainee with Montague L. Meyer Ltd at Timber Wharves, Millwall Dock.
His evolving career took him to KDM International, where he has contributed over 44 years of continuous service. Steve has been a director and shareholder at KDM for over 20 years.
Having been a major player and name in the UK Softwood industry for many, many years, Steve helped develop supply sources to the UK from Scandinavia, Russia, Germany, Austria, Baltic States, Canada and central and Eastern Europe. In many cases the sawmills, in particular smaller mills were not shipping to UK before his actions and this enabled them to grow their businesses and expand their product portfolio as the relationships developed and mutual opportunities were explored.
Steve is a highly respected timber trader in all of these countries, as well as in the UK, and has played a considerable role promoting the UK as an attractive market for global sawmills, maintaining integrity and respect for all those in the chain of supply and purchase – ‘everybody in the supply chain has to win all the way to and including the customer’ would be his bio.
For these reasons, Steve Henry has been awarded the TDUK Long Service Award 2023.
