TDUK Sustainability Award 2023

The TDUK Sustainability Award celebrates a regional member company committed to leading sustainability practices.

James Jones & Sons was recognised for its commendable ongoing work to minimise the environmental impact of its own operations and inspiring and educating others in the industry.

James Jones & Sons has demonstrated industry leadership in a number of environmental initiatives, being the first UK timber company to receive full ISO 14001 accreditation for its environmental processes and as of October this year is providing dual certification (FSC and PEFC) for all timber products sold.

James Jones & Sons has taken the initiative, collaborating on a number of sustainable research trials, including a joint venture with Upall and packaging tagging technologies to track and recover more wooden pallets. In addition to these, James Jones is now running one of the first electric HGV lorries and continues to plant very significant areas of woodland for future timber supply and carbon sequestration.

In 2020, James Jones & Sons funded the acquisition of the UK’s first subsidy windfarm, in Inverclyde. The green energy produced displaces more than 18,000 tonnes of CO2e annually, supplementing the reduction of 32,650 tonnes from their in-house biomass plants.

To recognise all of their efforts, from increasing green energy, to minimising waste and emissions, and from supporting innovative research to educate partners and customers, we have awarded the TDUK Sustainability Award to James Jones & Sons Ltd.
