ONS UK CPI Inflation (January 2025): UK CPI inflation rose from 2.5% in December to 3.0% in January 2025, its highest level for 10 months and slightly higher than the 2.8% forecast by economists polled by Reuters beforehand. It was also considerably higher than the recent low of 1.7% in September.
The rise in CPI inflation was driven by airfares dropping less than usual in January, higher costs for private schools after the government imposed VAT on fees and increased costs for food and nonalcoholic drinks.
