Summary

The S&P Global/CIPS UK Construction PMI was 50.8 in August, down from 51.7 in July. 50=monthly change so it signalled marginal growth in construction activity in August and slower growth than in July.

Commercial building continued to expand robustly (54.2) with the rate of growth the same as July’s five-month high. Civil engineering (52.4) also rose but the speed was its lowest since April. House building was the weakest sector (40.7), with the index at its lowest since May 2020.
