We aim to equip people and organisations with the tools and knowledge to source and supply timber responsibly.

Each year, the UK consumes between 15 and 18 million cubic metres of timber. To ensure this timber is used safely and effectively, it’s vital to maintain a ‘golden thread’ of product information throughout the entire supply chain – from source to end use.

A key framework supporting this is the Construction Product Regulation (CPR). These regulations define the performance standards, testing requirements, and information that govern most construction products being placed on the market for use in the built environment.

Many construction products – including those made from timber – must carry CE or UKCA marking, demonstrating compliance with product standards and declared performance levels. This marking is usually stamped on or affixed to the product itself. Equally important is the Declaration of Performance (DoP), which details the product’s characteristics and performance.

Every CE or UKCA-marked product must have a DoP issued by the manufacturer before it can be legally placed on the market. If a product is modified – for example, if flame retardant treatments are applied to timber or wood based panels – the person, company, or importer initiating that modification is considered the manufacturer and must take on the manufacturer’s responsibility set out in the CPR.
